Seniors For Seniors

The “Seniors For Seniors” program offers therapeutic interactions with some of the rescue animals of Joyous Acres through partnerships with select retirement communities. It was conceived by and for seniors, after the founding family noticed the elders among them becoming stronger, more mobile and more vibrant by interacting with the rescue animals. They wanted to share this healing with other seniors.

This program has helped seniors suffering from cognitive and physical decline, even prompting some in memory care to recall past experiences with animals. It has immediately resulted in benefits for the senior guests, say caregivers, who have noticed ordinarily withdrawn individuals becoming more talkative and lively after being around the animals.

The rescue animals, many of whom have suffered past neglect and/or abuse, also appear to be benefiting as well. For instance, once slaughter-bound former plow horse Geronimo, appears more attentive and confident with perked ears and wide eyes while nuzzling guests and being showered with human affection.

The Seniors For Seniors program is driven by the belief in the cycle of love. We get the love we give.
